International Cooperative Research in Nuclear Reactor Monitoring and Diagnosis between the University of Tennessee and Ipen, Brazil

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) and the Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares (IPEN), Sao Paulo, Brazil, have established a cooperative research program in the area of nuclear reactor monitoring and diagnosis. This effort explores the implementation of ongoing research and developing new automated monitoring and fault detection methods to improve the operational safety, reliability, and economic gains for commercial and experimental reactors. The cooperative program has resulted in the development and implementation of monitoring and diagnostics methods for nuclear systems. There have been several scientific visits between UTK and IPEN and joint papers were presented in national and international conferences. The cooperative effort is being expanded to include research and development for next generation nuclear power systems
